Summer youth worker

Job Opportunity (1 of 4) - Summer Youth Worker

(Deadline: June 8 th, 2018) -- ​Term of Employment: July 2nd, 2018 – August 10th, 2018 
​Nuchatlaht Tribe, a member tribe of Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council, is seeking a Summer Youth Worker to join our team. We’re looking for someone with a positive and friendly attitude. The Summer Youth Worker will organize and deliver activities to the youth that reside in Oclucje on a weekly basis from July 2nd -August 10th . 
Primary Responsibilities
• Plan and organize activities for the youth in the community
• Ensure participants’ safety
• Assist in the Band Office when needed
• Take participants on field trips
• Assist in fundraising for field trips
• Lead cooking and baking exercises 
Qualifications
• Must be a full-time Aboriginal, Inuit or Metis student in the academic year 2017-18, and returning to full-time studies in the upcoming 2018-19 academic years.
• Possession of a class 5 driver’s license and a working vehicle is an asset
• Previous experience working with the youth in Oclucje
• Previous training or work in the area of youth program development and/or supervisory positions
Wages and Hours
The successful applicant will be paid $12.65/hour and will be paid no more than 240 hours.

SUMMEr operations and maintenance assistant

Job Opportunity (2 of 4) - Summer Operations and Maintenance Assistant

​Nuchatlaht Tribe, a member tribe of Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council, is seeking a Summer Operations and Maintenance Assistant to join our team. We’re looking for someone with a positive and friendly attitude. The Summer Operations and Maintenance Assistant will assist the Operations and Maintenance worker.
Primary Responsibilities
• Mow the lawns on a bi-weekly basis
• Monitor the drinking water quality of the community on a weekly basis
​• Test the water plant generator on a monthly basis
• Flush hydrants on a monthly basis
• Test fire hose on a monthly basis • Brush excess bushes on a bi-weekly basis
• Organize a semi-annual community clean-up event 
Qualifications
• Must be a full-time Aboriginal, Inuit or Metis student in the academic year 2017-18, and returning to full-time studies in the upcoming 2018-19 academic years.
• Possession of a class 5 driver’s license and a working vehicle is an asset
• Possession of a class 5 driver’s license and a working vehicle is an asset
• Ability to lift 25lbs
• Willingness to work outdoors despite poor weather conditions (rain, windy, etc.)
• Willingness to learn
• A basic understanding on the use of chainsaws, and lawn mowers
• A basic understanding of Microsoft excel
• Previous training or work in the area of operations and maintenance
• Ability to meet deadlines 
Wages and Hours

Temporary junior fisheries technician -- herring season

Job Opportunity (3 of 4) - ​Temporary Junior Fisheries Technician – Herring Season

Nuchatlaht Tribe, a member tribe of Nuu-chah-nulth Tribe, is seeking one or two (1-2) temporary Junior Fisheries Technician – Herring Season to join our team. We’re looking for someone with a positive and friendly attitude, and a willingness to learn. 

The Junior Fisheries Technician – Herring Season will primarily be responsible for assisting with onwater herring spawn surveys, beach surveys, and the collection and the processing of whole herring and herring roe. Additional fisheries work may be offered and could include activities related to aquaculture, freshwater fisheries and marine patrols associated with the conservation, protection and use of the ha’houlthee through the Fisheries department. The candidate may be called upon to work with other departments in duties related to herring and the cultural use and celebration of herring. 

This is a short-term position covering the school Spring Break period for youth aged 12 to 21 years. The candidate must be willing to work a minimum of 5 days and available through the duration of the dates February 14 through to April 7, 2017 on an on-call basis. This position is based in Oclucje and preference will be given to Nuchatlaht Tribe members.

Primary Responsibilities
• Assist the skipper of the vessel,
• Set and collect kelp, herring boughs and roe on kelp,
• Load and off load herring and roe catch,
• Record data and observations accurately,
• Collect biological samples following established protocols and complete forms,
• Assist elsewhere as and when needed.

Qualifications and Abilities
• Previous experience on a vessel and fishing,
• Strong attention to detail, able to accurately gather and record information, and
• Must be physically fit and able to lift 50lbs, able to work outdoors all day

Wages
The successful applicant will be paid a maximum of $12-$15/hour, depending on qualifications and experience.

Band administrator

Job Opportunity (4 of 4) - Band Administrator

Nuchatlaht Tribe, a member tribe of Nuu-chah-nulth Tribe, is seeking one (1) Band Administrator to join our team. We’re looking for someone with a positive and friendly attitude. The Band Administrator will provide support in implementing Chief and Council’s vision, oversee the operations of Nuchatlaht Tribe and its staff, and serve Nuchatlaht Tribe’s members.

This position's work hours will be full time from Monday to Friday from 8:30am-4:30pm. A flex day will be provided once a month after the probation is completed and every second Friday work will end at 12:00pm. 

Primary Responsibilities
  • Manage six full time permanent staff members
  • Oversee and create the annual operating budget
  • Manage the capital infrastructure and capital residential departments and programs
  • Manage the economic development department and businesses
  • Implement annual plans (strategic plans, communication plans, and economic development plans)
  • Facilitate monthly Chief and Council meetings with the Chief and three Councilors and implement their vision
  • Write funding proposals and reports  Gather membership concerns and create strategies to address concerns
  • Liaise with surrounding First Nations, the Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council, the Village of Zeballos, the Province of BC, and the Government of Canada
  • ​Provide strategic planning services 

Qualifications
  • Possesses a current valid Class 5 driver’s license
  • Possesses a working vehicle and is willing to travel
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in business administration, or public administration
  • Willing to take on the job training
  • Basic understanding of computers, the internet and emails
  • Advanced understanding of Excel, Microsoft Word and PowerPoint
  • 2 years’ experience managing staff
  • 2 years’ experience managing budgets and finances
  • 1 years’ experience in completing year-end tasks at a First Nations, government, or not-for-profit organization
  • 1 years’ experience in working with First Nations
  • 1 years’ experience in facilitating meetings
  • Willingness to train a member to take over the Band Administrator role
  • Willingness to move to Zeballos and embrace the West Coast
  • Completion of a recent Criminal Record Check 

Wages
The successful applicant will be paid a maximum of $32/hour, depending on qualifications held
